שנה לאחר העלמותו של בנו צ'ארלי, במהלך קרנבל ליל כל הקדושים, פרופ' מייק לאופורד, (ניקולס קייג'), רדוף על ידי תמונות מוזרות והודעות מפחידות שלא ניתן להסבירן. ביחד עם קריסטן, (שרה ווין קולייס) אשתו הפרודה, עוצר את הכל בכדי לפתור את התעלומה ומחפש בקדחתנות את בנו האבוד, בכך, הוא שולף אגדה שמסרבת להיעלם ולהישאר קבורה בעבר.
